TomTom has upgraded its Runner and Mulit-Sport sport watches with its new Cardio models, which have a GPS and a built-in heart-rate monitor.
While the watch is similar to the original model from last year, with a four-way singular control to the base, the new model features a dual green LED monitor on the back of the main watch unit, according to Pocket-lint. The device measures the user's active heart rate when it is pressed tight to the skin.
The Cardio model has five intensity settings, which are Sprint, Speed, Endure, Fat Burn, and Easy. Sprint is used for interval training, Speed is used improve speed and fitness, and Endure is for improving heart and lung capacity. Fat burn is used for losing weight and Easy is for warming up and cooling down, CNET reported.
Users only need one button to control the watch, which is waterproof and able to dive up to 165 feet. The GPS sensor records the user's route when they exercise outside on track and field. It also works inside when the user walks or runs on a treadmill.
The new watch is also able to target the user's optimal training zone, and is able to tell the user when they fall in and out of the desired target for heart rate. The zones are based on age and weight, and are divided into the five intensity settings, Pocket-lint reported.
Users will be able to use an iOS smartphone to upload their data to the TomTom MySports data website, and will soon be able to do the same with Androids. Unlike the original models, which need to be put in a cradle to charge and sync data, the cradle is not needed for the Cardio models.
The Runner Cardio watch costs 250 pounds ($416), CNET reported. The Multi-Sport Cardio watch will be available for 280 pounds ($466).
