Verizon Wireless to Hire 42 Employees in Maine in New Expansion

| By

Verizon Wireless announced Monday that it will hire workers to fill 42 full-time open sales, retail and customer service positions. The decision is part of the company's effort to add 330 workers throughout New England, according to The Kennebec Journal.

Verizon currently employs over 350 people in Maine and 2,500 throughout New England, MarketWatch reported. The company offers tuition reimbursement, adoption assistance and bonuses to employees. Verizon also offers competitive salaries and benefits, such as health care coverage, which begins on the employees' first day at work, and participation in their 401 (k) program with a dollar-for-dollar matchup to six percent of a worker's salary contribution.

The company said the hiring effort was started due to the need for the company to expand in order to help the company grow, The Kennebec Journal reported.

"Our employees are at the core of who we are, and we know Maine offers a pool of top-quality, high skilled talent," said Christine Berberich, New England region president for Verizon Wireless. "Verizon Wireless is a growing company in an exciting industry, and we are hiring here in Maine to ensure we continue to deliver the outstanding experience our customers expect."

Verizon makes recruiting military veterans a priority as well, MarketWatch reported.

"Veterans return home every day and have to restart their lives as civilians," said Julie DeCosta, director of Human Resources for Verizon Wireless. "Verizon Wireless recruiters are trained to understand the value of a candidate's military experience. We believe veterans thrive in a team environment like ours."

In 2013, the company finished $245 million in wireless network enhancements in New England, which increased the company's regional network investment to $3.6 billion. Verizon controls the biggest 4G LTE network in the U.S. The Verizon Wireless network is available to almost 305 million people in over 500 markets in the U.S., and covers over 97 percent of the country's population, MarketWatch reported.

Verizon did not provide how many subscribers it serves in Maine, The Kennebec Journal reported. The company has almost 100 million wireless customers across the U.S.
