United States government employees can now use Blackberry's Secure Work Space for iOS and Android via its Enterprise Service 10 component upon recent certification according to a press release Wednesday from the company.
"Organizations, in both the public and private sectors, must take the necessary steps to protect sensitive data and ensure that their mobile solutions offer the highest level of security," Ben Hoffman, mobility analyst at IDC said in a statement. "FIPS 140-2 certification indicates that BlackBerry is meeting the strict security requirements that many enterprise customers require."
The service makes certain that information is transferred securely the press release reported.
"BlackBerry is considered the most trusted and secure mobile platform and we continue to provide customers with choice and flexibility without compromising security," Scott Totzke, Senior Vice President, Security Group at BlackBerry said in a statement. "The FIPS 140-2 validation for Secure Work Space for iOS and Android demonstrates the multi-platform security capabilities that BlackBerry delivers for customers, helping governments and enterprises alike to deploy third-party devices with more confidence and less risk."
Blackberry lost $646 million, last year, when its revenue significantly decreased 40 percent to $11 billion The Wall Street Journal reported. This year, the company lost four million subscribers and suffered another decrease of $84 million in the fiscal quarter that ended June 1.
Blackberry made a smaller amount of cuts over the summer from its sales, and research, and development departments The Journal reported. This comes just a year after the company let go 5,000 people.
Blackberry had 12,700 employees as of March, which was the last time it revealed a total number. Two years ago, over 17,000 employees worked at the company based in Waterloo, Ontario Canada. Blackberry also had control of 14 percent of the smartphone business. This has since dropped to less than three percent.
