HTC One M8 Release Date Revealed: Verizon Stocks Smartphone

| By

HTC on Tuesday unveiled its flagship One M8, which is expected to be a game changer for the company.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 801 processor that is clocked at 2.3 Ghz; that's substantially faster than its predecessor, powered by a 1.7 Ghz Snapdragon 600 processor. The new phone is also bigger, and features a 5-inch 1080p screen. The design is similar to last year's HTC One but the body is brushed aluminum. Bloomberg also mentioned that HTC reported its first annual loss last year after a bad run across nine consecutive quarters.

Daily Tech pointed out that the phone's 3D camera is its highlight. The spec charts show the presence of a rear 5 MP depth camera in addition to a 4 MP camera with 2 micrometer pixel size, which work on the ultrapixel technology.

It also said the phone uses the faster and energy efficient LPDDR 3 RAM compared to the last year's model that ran the LPDDR 2 memory. Another improvement over last year's device is that it features a micro SD slot, included at the cost of reduced internal NAND storage. Other notable differences are bigger dimensions and a large battery which has resulted in the body being 17 g heavier than its predecessor at 160 g.

BGR reported that the new Sense 6 UI is sensitive to power saving. "A phone with 5% charge remaining will last for 15 hours with extreme power saving mode enabled. A phone with a full charge will last for two weeks," it reported, quoting HTC.

The phone also features a revamped version of HTC's BoomSound and Sense UI which has been built from scratch to give a new look.

Verizon Wireless was the only carrier to have put up the phone in its stock on Tuesday, Daily Tech said adding that other carriers are expected to follow suit later this week.
