Driven into a fit of rage after being asked to turn off his Xbox, a young man damaged his stepfather's motorcycle.
According to CNET, 19-year old Alec Young was gaming at his Utah home when his stepfather returned. The man asked his stepson to turn off the television and then stepped out to fetch the mail. When he returned, he found his stepson had not obeyed him, so he naturally turned off the television and gaming device himself. Unfortunately, the teenager was less than pleased.
St George News reported that Young threw two remotes at his father and broke them. Terrified, the father sought safety across the street. The youngster then took his rage out on his stepfather's $40,000 custom Harley. He used a knife to stab the bike until the blade broke. That wasn't the end of it, though.
According to Officer David McDaneil, Young backed out his 2000 Nisan Maxima and rammed it into the bike, slamming it against the garage wall. The motorcycle sustained about $25,000 damage, St George News said.
Afteward, the police tracked Young his friend's house in Ivins, where he fled after the incident.
"After being told his Miranda rights, Young said he had 'acted out' when he threw the remotes at his stepfather. He then went after the motorcycle 'in rage.' When his hitting it didn't cause enough damage to the motorcycle, he told police he got in his car and ran over the motorcycle on purpose," St George News reported.
Young admitted to missing his anti-depression medication, which may have caused him to act out. For his act of rage, he was charged with two counts of domestic violence assaults and second degree felony.
CNET cited other instances where technology unwittingly became involved in acts of violence and crime, including, "mothers who wish to shame their kids on Facebook to heartthrobs who wonder if it's au fait to dump their lovers by text."
