Vine Bans Porn, But Not Nudity: Twitter Launches New Policy on Its App

| By

Sorry, porn seekers. You're not going to get your fix on Vine anymore. Twitter has officially launched a "no porn" policy on its app, which allows users to post six-second videos on the sharing service, according to ZDNET.com

The new ban prohibits explicit sexual content. More specifically, this includes "depictions of sex acts, nudity that is sexually provocative or in a sexual context, and graphic depictions of sexual arousal," according to PC Magazine. A very small percentage of videos that make it onto Vine show this type of material, so the ban doesn't come too soon.

Currently, users with sexual content have one week to make changes to their videos in order to avoid account suspension, according to ZDNET.

That said, not all nudity is being taken down from Vine. As long as the nudity is not sexually explicit, it can remain. Vine stated that "depictions of nudity or partial nudity that are primarily documentary, educational or artistic in nature" are allowed. In addition "We also allow suggestive posts, just not sexually explicit ones."

The new announcement isn't all that surprising. Vine was actually given a 17+ rating after many pornographic clips were posted to the service, according to PC Magazine. One of these clips actually landed up on the top of the Editor's Picks due to human error.

Currently, it looks like Vine is making an effort to cut down on this type of sexually explicit content. This could mean that your Vine may be less cluttered with porn in the future-though you may still encounter a naked protestor or two.
