Bacon aficionados can now wake up to the smell of their favorite sizzling dish, courtesy of Oscar Mayer.
The Daily Mail reported that Oscar Mayer had created a device which, when plugged into an iPhone, can emit the smell of sizzling bacon. The food giant has also created an app that produces the sound of sizzling bacon. Oscar Mayer's app and device are expected to function as an alarm to wake people up.
"With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That's why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most," said Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer in a statement, IB Times reported.
"As the category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks," he added.
A video on Youtube posted by Oscar Mayer on Wednesday notched close to 25,000 views. The video shows a woman caught in her dreams revolving around bacon, only to wake up and find that her bedside iPhone is emitting the smell.
"Prepare yourself for a bacon awakening beyond your wildest imagination. Wake Up & Smell The Bacon is a multi-sensory alarm experience that starts your morning with the mouth-watering sizzle and smell of Oscar Mayer bacon," reads the tagline of the video.
But the iPhone dongle cannot be bought. LA Times said that users will have to enter a contest at WakeUpAndSmelltheBacon.com. Oscar Mayer will randomly select 4,700 winners who will get the device.
Daily Mail added that Oscar Mayer's device is not the only iPhone plug-in to emit the smell of foods. It mentions an app called Scentee that claims to change food taste with iPhone add-on devices.
