Bacon is being used for a lot more than just regular consumption.

Oscar Mayer Institute for the Advancement of Bacon's new technology lifts people from their sleep to the smell of bacon a press release reported Wednesday.

"With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That's why our team decided to develop an app to give folks what they long for most," Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer said in the statement. "As the category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks," Bick said in the statement.

The new gadget, which gives off a bacon aroma, and sounds like a rooster is part of a promotion that allows interested individuals who love bacon to enroll, once each day for a chance to be chosen for a Wake Up and Smell the Bacon technological device through April 4 that is compatible with Oscar Mayer's app program on the iPhone under the same name the press release reported.

Consumers can obtain the app through the iPhone's app store if they do not have the technology, which attaches to the iPhone's headphone jack.

Oscar Meyer will send the lucky people a month and a half to two months following the end of the application period.

According to the press release, customers will not be able to buy the alarm in stores

The institute provided a website for people to buy bacon as a Father's Day present in 2012 as part of its "Say It With Bacon" promotion the press release reported.

Oscar Meyer has been busy with new initiatives including lunchables for adults who are always on the go, and need something sufficient to eat.
