One hundred seventy six employees will also lose their jobs beginning April 15 The Post reported.

"The company's strategic plan is to continue its operations in the New York, New England and Florida markets," Derek Beckwith spokesman at Cumberland Farms told The Post.

Cumberland Farms began in 1939, and later grew to unlock the doors on its first store in 1962 according to information on its website.

Cumberland used to have more stores throughout New Jersey along the jersey shore, in places like Atlantic City, Egg Harbor Township, Stafford's Manahawkin area, and Little Egg Harbor's West Tuckerton section, but the number has since gone down to 16 The Post reported.

According to the Associated Press, the company has 600 locations left throughout New England, New York, and Florida which it also plans to concentrate on. There are also locations in eight other states the company's website said.

Cumberland Farms was an original place for motorists to get their gas themselves rather than have it pumped for them by a gas attendant in 1972 according to information on the retailer's website.

Customers have grown to love the company's Chill Zone flavor Berry Backlash. Next in the line are the NRG Kick, and Red Rage drinks.

Enough people buy three million gallons of Chill Zone beverages annually equaling the amount of six pools, the same as one used in the olympics the information said.

Cumberland stores have a special section for Chill drinks, automated teller machines that do no charge a fee, extra warm sandwiches, and equipment for making shakes.

The stores were accompanied by Gulf gas stations which Cumberland bought in 1986 according to information on the company's website.
