Multinational computer company Dell Inc. has released an updated version of its SonicWall secure mobile access platform.
The new SonicWall was made in response to the problems that organizations are facing in the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend, v3 reported. The platform can deliver mobile access to corporate resources from both managed and unmanaged devices while ensuring security in the devices.
According to Dell, organizations have been pressured to supply secure mobile access to company data, resources, and applications in response to the increasing number of both personally owned and corporate issued mobile devices in the workplace. The mixture of business and personal data with applications can cause a variety of security issues for organizations, such as data interception on unsecured flights, theft from rogue applications and devices with infected malware.
The solution lets administrators make sure security policies that provide context-aware authentication are enforced, v3 reported. Devices can be checked to see if they have been "rooted" or jailbroken", which can pose a risk of security. Administrators will also be able to check the device ID, certificate status and operating system version before granting access.
Additional features of the new SonicWall include protecting company data at rest on mobile devices and allowing companies to send policy-enforced access to applications and resources from a variety of device platforms, according to Dell. These platforms include iOS, Android, Mac OSX, Windows, and Kindle Fire.
According to eWeek, network access is not granted to devices that do not meet policy requirements, and the user receives a notification of non-compliance. Patrick Sweeney, executive director of product management for Dell Security Products, talked about the importance of maintaining security in networks.
"In today's mobile workplace, it is vitally important to enable remote and mobile employees to maintain their productivity without compromising network security," Sweeney said. "The co-mingling of business and personal applications and data on mobile devices presents an even greater challenge to IT when it comes to providing users with mobile access to everything they need to do their jobs, but still protecting corporate data from the multitude of threats posed by mobile devices."
Sweeney gave praise to the new SonicWall solution, v3 reported, saying, "The Dell SonicWall secure mobile access solution provides best-in-class, context-aware authentication for both personal and company-owned devices to protect corporate networks and data from mobile threats."
