YouTube Receives Makeover for Layout and Playlists

| By

YouTube, Google Inc.'s video-sharing website, has received several changes to its layout and playlists.

The layout is now centered instead of appearing on the left side, according to PC Magazine. When users visit the site, they will be taken to the "What to Watch" page. The latest videos from the users subscribed channels will be featured along with recommended and popular videos.

YouTube's new look features a more refined typography, specially placed white space and full-bleed images that extend over the end of the page, PFhub reported. The look was influenced by Google's "card-like" appearance used for its mobile and Internet applications.

The reason for YouTube's changes is to make sure that playlists receive top billing, placed front and center in the left sidebar, according to PFhub. The set designers for the website are looking to give YouTube a more friendly feeling and look similar to apps that most customers currently use.

Users will still be able to view the sidebar menu, PC Magazine reported. Users can click the "guide" button next to the YouTube logo at the top left corner of the screen, allowing them to see all of their favorite subscriptions, playlists, and other videos. The guide now features playlists that users can create, along with playlists from users' other favorite channels they liked. When users create a new playlist, YouTube will create a pop up page, which gives users the chance to organize all of their videos.

YouTube Web Developer Yining Zhao spoke in a company blog post on Thursday about the focus of the changes, which is convenience for users, according to Tech Times.

"The way you watch YouTube keeps changing, so we're making a few tweaks to YouTube to keep up with you," Zhao said. Zhao also said the recent changes should, "make it easier to find what you want to watch on YouTube and collect playlists to watch again and again."
