Industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails performed for one full-hour at the Austin City Limits show in Austin, TX.
The band's set will premiere on Saturday, Apr. 5 as a preview for ACL's 40th Anniversary Season, according to Icon Vision. The event was filmed last November, and is NIN's debut on ACL.
NIN singer and songwriter Trent Reznor stated ACL was a different environment for the band, giving the band a new opportunity for their performance.
"We didn't want to make ACL a NIN," Reznor said. "We wanted to be out of our element."
Reznor gave more details on his statement on Reddit, Rolling Stone reported.
"I have a lot of respect for ACL and I wanted us to be a guest on THEIR show, not to convert their show to our concert", Reznor said. "It was unusual to perform in that environment, and ended up being one of the best sows I think we played."
Reznor said the band's performance was a step forward from NIN's performance at the 2014 Grammy Awards on CBS, according to Rolling Stone. NIN performed with Queens of the Stone Age, Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham, and David Grohl. Reznor expressed his disappointment with the show after the finale.
NIN is currently on tour in Japan with scheduled shows in Latin America, Europe, and Australia this spring and early summer, Rolling Stone reported. Reznor stated NIN will be using spare time from their upcoming tour to work on a new project. Reznor also said there was a possibility the band will release new music this Fall.
Nine released Hesitation Marks last August, the band's first album in five years, Icon Vision reported. The album has received great praise with Spin Magazine calling it "the most important artistic statement from Reznor since the late 90s." Rolling Stone stated the album was "one of the best" in their review.
