Free pizza is the reward 100 Green County, Pa residents will receive following a gas well explosion at the local Chevron.

Residents can also get a free two liter bottle of soda in a combo meal from local pizzeria Bobtown Pizza, 80 miles from the site KDKA reported.

Chevron's community outreach team hand-delivered letters with gift certificates for the promotion to people near the incident that took the life of one employee, and hurt a second last week CBS television affiliate KDKA reported Monday.

According to Newsweek, the gas station's well used for hyrdraulic fracturing or the process that breaks up rock with liquid force exploded last week.

"Chevron recognizes the effect this has had on the community," the company said in the letter KDKA reported. "We value being a responsible member of this community and will continue to strive to achieve incident-free operations. We are committed to taking action to safeguard our neighbors, our employees, our contractors and the environment," KDKA reported.

"We appreciate the strong support we have received from nearby residents as we work to respond to this incident in a safe manner," Chevron said in a statement KDKA reported.

Bobtown Pizza has received good business as a result of the promotion.

"So they'd call up for lunch and a couple of days we did breakfast for them," Brian Scritchfield one of the owners of Bobtown Pizza told KDKA.

Brian owns the pizza shop with his father Jim Scritchfield, and business partner Bill Sowden KDKA reported.

"People here, you know, we were kind of overwhelmed a little bit with all the publicity and people coming in so I think it's a nice thing," Gloria Garnek, a resident of Bobtown, Pa told KDKA.

"So they'd call up for lunch and a couple of days we did breakfast for them," Scritchfield told KDKA.
