Kraft Singles: Company Takes Out Artificial Preservatives For Natural Cheese

Kraft is no longer using artifical preservatives in its single cheese slices upon the company's announcement Monday.

Kraft Singles full-fat American and white American cheese slices will instead have natamycin or a natural mold inhibitor rather than sorbic acid according to information from the company Fox News reported.

"Consumers are looking for those less artificial cues and messages," Gavin Schmidt manager of cheese research and development at Kraft told CBS Los Angeles. "Those messages are more meaningful to consumers than they have been in the past," Schmidt told CBS Los Angeles. "There's a little more to it than that."

Shoppers will see a red sticker on the singles informing consumers the products do not contain artificial preservatives nor processed flavors.

"We know families today want convenient foods that have no artificial preservatives and a simpler, more recognizable ingredient list, and Kraft is working to deliver more of these options for some of our most beloved brands," Brian Gelb, a senior associate brand manager for Kraft Foods, said in a statement CBS Los Angeles reported.

Other Kraft cheese products are expected to be altered down the line, as the company focused at the more infamous ones Fox News reported.

Kraft focused on ensuring the removal of the artificial preservatives did not change the cheese slices' in the five years the company used to modify the product.

The company announced it was going to take out dyes from macaroni shaped liked spongebob squarepants, Halloween related content, and winter shapes in October CBS Los Angeles reported.

According to CNN, the company decided to take out the dyes from its european products and put paprika and beta-carotene for extra color rather than stick the following warning label on the food boxes.

The new product will have six more gram of whole grains, a decreased amount of sodium, and saturated fat. It will also have spices instead of artificial food dyes.
