Yuengling's Ice Cream returned to store shelves Monday after a 30 year hiatus the AP reported.
"One of the biggest things in putting a new product on the market is getting brand-name recognition, which is a problem we don't have. David Yuengling, president of Yuengling's Ice Cream told the AP. "We are really popular for not having been on the market for 30 years," Yuengling told the AP. David Yuengling is also a cousin of Dick Yuengling, owner of the brewery, and a great-grandson of Dick Yuengling.
The ice cream is available at stores in Pennsylvania, Virgina, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, and New Jersey with the possibility for more down the line.
Customers can find the ice cream in ten flavors such as belgain chocolate mixed with salted caramel, and chocolate chip, and mint chocolate chip the AP reported.
"Needless to say, these received a thumb's up from all of us!" Jennifer Yuengling, the oldest daughter of Dick Yuengling told the AP. Jennifer is also a sixth generation Yuengling.
Yuengling's Dairy came to be following the end of the prohibition, or the time when alcohol could not be made or sold between 1920 to 1933.
The company then kept up its ice cream business, along with additional dairy for the following 50 years.
The company shutdown in 1985 after none of David Yuengling's sons wanted to take the reigns. Yuengling then spent the ensuing three years in the computer field before a friend of the Yuenglings sparked interest again. The company re-instated themselves after they were confident there would in the $6.8 billion ice cream business, and the product would do well.
"What is it that's going to keep us going? What are people going to like about this to keep them buying it? It's a tough nut to crack, and it's not an easy business," David Yuengling told the AP.
