One hundred eighty three thousand Fred and Friends Chill Baby pacifiers are being recalled because children can choke on their small pieces according to recall information on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission's website. The recall also includes 17,000 in Canada.
"The pacifiers fail to meet federal safety standards," the commission's said in information about the recall. "The beard on the Artiste and the knob on the Volume pacifiers can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children," the recall information said. "In addition, the ventilation holes on the Volume and Panic pacifier guards are too small."
The pacifiers include the chill baby artiste with code CPART, and UPC 728987021282, the chill baby volume pacifier coded CB VOL with UPC 728987020599, and the chill baby panic with code CB Panic and UPC 728987020605. All measure two inches in width, and one and a half inches in height.
There have been no reported injuries. A knob on one pacifier was reported to have separated.
Consumers with affected pacifiers can call Fred and Friends at (855) 346-6372 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, e-mail at pacifiersconsumer@fredandfriends.com, or online at www.fredandfriends.com via a posting about the case.
The product can be returned for a $12 refund according to the recall information. Fred and Friends is supplying a postage paid envelope for consumers to send in the defective product.
The products went on sale in April through December 2013 at department, gift, drug, toy, baby product, grocery, home decorating stores, gift shops, in hotels and museums and on the internet the recall information said.
