Google Glass may be a useful for those without normal glasses, but what about customers with prescription lenses? Now, Google has teamed up with VSP to provide prescription versions of Google Glass with its new Titanium Collection, according to PCmag.
Google has promised prescription versions of its device since it was first announced. But today is the first time that the company has finally unveiled the eyeglass frames that can fit prescription lenses, according to VentureBeat. The new frames will run an extra $225 on top of the already-hefty Google Glass price of $1,500. That said, it's likely that consumers will shell out the extra cash.
"If we had a nickel for every time someone has asked about prescription lenses for Glass...well, we'd have a lot of nickels," said the Glass team on Google+. "So we want you to be the first to know that the Titanium Collection is here, with a handful of new styles for Glass so you can make it your own."
The fact that Google Glass is being made available to those with prescription lenses is a smart move on Google's part.
"The key business model of the year for wearables is becoming embedded into the health care system," said J.P. Gownder, an analyst studying wearable devices at Forrester, in an interview with the New York Times. "By embedding them into the health care system, you can reach a mass market."
There are currently four styles of glasses available. However, these glasses are still only available for those selected for the Google Glass Explorer program, according to VentureBeat. That said, it's likely that Google will make Google Glass more widely available by the end of this year.
