[VIDEO] ‘Independence Day 2’ Trailer Showed No Signs Of Will Smith! Col. Hiller's Death Revealed

| By

It's been confirmed that Will Smith won't reprise his role as Col. Hiller in "Independence Day 2," but some fans are still hoping to get a glimpse of him in the new trailer to find out what happened to his character.

Unfortunately, there were no signs of the Hollywood superstar in the teaser. Despite his absence, some people are still excited to see "Independence Day: Resurgence" now that its trailer has been released.

In the video, a woman's voice can be heard saying, "We found something out here. Something only you might understand."

It's been more than 20 years since the last alien invasion, but now they are back and bigger than ever. Jeff Goldblum, who reprises his role as David Levinson, is in charge of the Earth Space Defence as reported by Mirror. Bill Pullman also returns in the sequel as former President Thomas J. Whitmore.

Liam Hemsworth, who stars as Jake Morrison, could be taking over the role of Will Smith as he prepares for battle against the aliens together with Goldblum. Playing the son of Col. Hiller in "Independence Day 2" is Jessie Usher.

A few years ago, Roland Emmerich revealed the reason why the 47-year-old actor won't be reprising his role. "Will Smith cannot come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," the director told NY Daily News.

Despite the absence of the former lead star in the film, that did not stop the director from working on "Independence Day: Resurgence." For those who are wondering what happened to Col. Hiller, the answer was finally revealed by Cinema Blend.

According to the website, a viral site claimed that Will Smith's character died in a giant explosion. In one of the posted timelines of Warof1996.com, a broadcast headline revealed the fate of the main character. The headline which occurred on April 27, 2007 reads, "Alien Tech Malfunction Kills Col. Hiller."

Based on that, Will Smith's character is confirmed dead so fans should not expect to see the actor making a cameo in "Independence Day 2." Check out the trailer below:
