Kenmore Oscillating Fan Heaters Recall: Commission Pulls Back 42,500 For Fire and Burning Hazard

Sears and Kmart are pulling back 42,500 Kenmore oscillating fan heaters because they can cause a fire, and burn the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said in recall information on its website.

"Broken motor mounts can cause the units to overheat, catch fire and ignite nearby items, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers," the CPSC said in recall information. "Consumers should immediately turn off and unplug the recalled fan heaters and return them to any Sears or Kmart store for a full refund," the CPSC said in recall information.

The heaters, made in China were sold throughout the United States between September 2013 and November 2013 for $35 and $40 according to the recall information.

The heaters in question have model number 127.90914310, and are in black and white the recall information reported. They are 12 inches in height, and nine inches in width. There are two controls for temperature, and speed directly above the fan the recall information reported. A red button, below the fan on the front of the appliance is the on and off switch according to the recall information.

Consumers can call Sears and Kmart at no cost at (888) 820-3341 between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. central time Monday to Friday the recall information reported. The phone number is available Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. the recall information reported.

Consumers can also view additional information on the retailers' website at www.sears.com and www.kmart.com by selecting the product recall option.

Consumers can also notify the commission via an orange rectangle on the bottom of the government agency's recall information if they experience any issues related to the problem in the recall.

The retailers have heard of seven cases of the heaters burning, or starting to flare up the recall information reported.
