JetBlue Service Resumes Following 17-Hour Shutdown

| By

JetBlue added 19 additional flights to help bring passengers left in airports to their destinations following the past weekend's snow storm Bloomberg Businessweek reported Monday.

The airline had to cancel 50 percent of its flights, and shut down for a short time for 17 hours beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday at JFK, and LaGuardia in New York, Newark Liberty, and Boston's Logan Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

The time off was meant to organize jets, and crews in order following the past weekend's storm.

"The big test is whether service restarts as anticipated," Robert Mann, a former American Airlines executive who now runs aviation consultant R.W. Mann and Co. in Port Washington, New York Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

The airline ended the halt at 10 a.m. Monday, and restored service by 3 p.m. It anticipated having everyone where they need to go within the coming days Bloomberg Businessweek reported. Fifty percent of flights were going to Caribbean, and South America Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

"It's looking really good at the moment," Anders Lindstrom, a JetBlue spokesman told Bloomberg Businessweek. "We've continued to have arrivals coming in."

Passengers affected by the delays could get travel vouchers, extra awards points in JetBlue's True Blue value program, or a refund. The choice will be based on each person's situation Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

JFK, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty, and Boston's Logan were the only four airports affected since the most people were stuck there due to the weather Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

"JetBlue's major operations are really concentrated at JFK and Boston, where they're most affected by this weather pattern," George Hamlin, president of Hamlin Transportation Consulting in Fairfax, Virginia told Bloomberg Businessweek. "It also depends on whether you're running a high-frequency domestic service into and out of those airports, which they are."

Two-thousand domestic flights were canceled Monday. Two hundred and fourteen of these included JetBlue flights. The airline's total cancelations has reached 915 from Friday Bloomberg Businessweek reported.
