Urban Outfitters's infamous depression is off the shelves amid complaints on social media Top News reported Tuesday.
The retailer stopped selling the shirt in for stores for $9.99 but it is still available online Fox television affiliate 29 reported.
"We're sad to those irritated by the tee we purchased from the @depressioncomsg brand," Urban Outfitters told Top News. "We were attempting to help a little brand, not glamorize emotional instability in any avenue."
Several Twitter users took to the social media platform to express their dismay.
"Urban Outfitters have made a depression t-shirt. Well done, you've made it even harder for people genuinely suffering to be taken seriously," Twitter user Chloe said on her account.
"Absolutely disgusting what Urban Outfitters is selling," another user said on their Twitter account. "Disgraceful. I don't know how that is allowed."
"I dealt with depression and anorexia/bulimia for 5 years, this is so offensive #DepressionIsntAFashionStatement," Twitter user @lottie225Days said in a post on her Twitter account.
Kenny Lim, and Andrew Loh thought of the idea following their leave from advertising jobs ABC News reported.
"I was shocked that after one T-shirt people jumped to this conclusion," Lim told ABC News. "We make happy clothe. I got very depressed at work," Lim told ABC News. "The clothing line is a reminder that we can be happy every day when we go to work. I just think we are being misunderstood," Lim told ABC News. "I just want the focus to be on the brand."
The two made the clothing in the last six to eight months for men ABC News reported. Urban Outfitters contacted Depression regarding the creation of a women's cut off t-shirt after the men's shirt was successful ABC News reported.
"I think it's best we don't make it anymore," Lim told ABC News.
