A delay in the delivery of holiday packages by UPS and Fedex has led employees to scurry in sending out products NBC News reported Thursday.
People should receive their gifts Thursday or Friday following UPS's efforts to gather additional workers Wednesday night in a company center in Louisville to organize boxes NBC News reported. A few Fedex customers could retrieve their items at a domestic Fedex Express center Christmas Day NBC News reported.
The delays were caused by inclement weather, and a bigger demand in rising sales on the internet.
"UPS understands the importance of your holiday shipments," the company in a statement on its website. "UPS is experiencing heavy holiday volume and making every effort to get packages to their destination; however, the volume of air packages in our system exceeded the capacity of our network immediately preceding Christmas so some shipments were delayed," the company said in the statement. "UPS is not making pickups or deliveries on Christmas Day and will resume normally scheduled service on December 26. Fedex sent out 275 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
"Our 300,000 team members were focused on safely delivering our customers packages this holiday season and we are proud of their efforts," Scott Fielder, a spokesman for Fedex Corp said in a statement NBC News reported. "We operated with very high service levels over 99 percent at FedEx Ground, for example during our busiest time of the year."
Online retailer, Amazon.com is reimbursing customers for shipping costs, and taking off $20 on an upcoming purchase.
One was shipped via UPS, the other FedEx."I thought it would happen," Swanson told the AP."My wife understands but my 5-year-old daughter ... I think we're going to let it be a surprise when it comes," Eric Swanson, an Amazon Prime customer told the Associated Press. "Next time, if I need to get a gift and cut it that close, I will just have to enter the fray and go to the mall."Swanson purchased a doll for a his daughter, and bought a sweater for his wife via Amazon, and its partner sites the AP reported. He was ensured a two-day delivery the AP reported.
