A $20 billion transaction will give Emirates Airlines 50 extra Airbus A380 aircrafts.
Big discounts from makers of the aircraft will bring the price down from $20.2 billon. The agreement now brings Emirates Airbus A380's to 140 Wire Update reported Monday.
"This order is a major vote of confidence in the A380. Since delivery of their first aircraft in July 2008, Emirates' A380 fleet has grown to be the largest in the world with 44 A380s in operation," commented John Leahy, chief operating officer of customers at Airbus said in a statement on Airbus.com. "We congratulate Emirates on this impressive achievement and thank the airline for their continued support of our flagship aircraft."
The deal was first introduced at the Dubai Airshow last month. Tim Clark, Emirates Airline president then closed the acquisition when at Airbus' headquarters in Toulouse, France.
"The A380 is our flagship aircraft. It is popular with our customers and delivers results for us in terms of operational performance. That is why we have ordered these additional 50 aircraft to add to our A380 fleet," Emirates Airline President Tim Clark said in a statement. "It raises the total number of A380s ordered by Emirates to 140, more than any other airline."
One and twenty-two A380's have been distributed to ten upscale airlines. The jet travels 8,500 miles or 15,700 kilometers without stopping. More people are able to fly for reduced fares, and in ways that are not as harmful to the environment.
Cathay Pacific Airways has ordered 21 Boeing 777x aircrafts for $7.5 billion. The plane is expected to be sent to those who put orders in between 2021 and 2024.
Boeing is still deciding where to build the aircraft. The International Association of Machinists turned down the original agreement, and second proposal because it was similar to the first, except $5,000 in extra income.
