Target is giving the forty million people who had their credit and debit card information taken between Nov. 27, and Dec. 15 a discount ABC News reported Saturday.

"It was a crime against Target, our team members, and most importantly, our guests," Gregg Steinhafel, Target CEO said in a statement. "We're in this together, and in that spirit, we are extending a 10 percent discount - the same amount our team members receive - to guests who shop in U.S. stores on Dec. 21 and 22."Gregg Steinhafel "Most importantly, we want to reassure guests that they will not be held financially responsible for any credit and debit card fraud. And to provide guests with extra assurance, we will be offering free credit monitoring services. We will be in touch with those impacted by this issue soon on how and where to access the service."

Forty million credit and debit account numbers were taken from Target customers between Nov. 27, and Dec. 15, and are now reportedly being used on new plastics Krebs On Security reported.

The incident spanned the country in Target stores, and not online, and could have involved thieves fiddling with the machines customers utilize to slide their cards through while purchasing merchandise Bloomberg Businessweek reported.

An update from Target Friday said no pin information is believed to be obtained according to CNN Money. The security code on the cards plastic sticker near the card owner's signature on the underside of the card are also considered to be safe. The same is true for card user's social dates of birth, and social security number.

"I was thinking, I didn't go to Walgreens. I would never spend 250 dollars in Walgreens so, that got my attention," Missy Thompson, a Tennessee resident told ABC News.

Thompson was worried she was a victim after she noticed suspicious items on her card.
