Lee Bros Foodservice Pulls Back 740 Pounds of Sausage

Lee Bro Foodservice Inc. is pulling back 740 pounds of sausage for possible contamination of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin the United States Department of Agriculture reported Thursday.

The affected products were purchased in Arizona, California, Oklahoma, Nevada, Texas, and on the internet. No one has become sick from the bacteria so far.

"The problem was discovered by FSIS personnel during a food safety assessment," The USDA FSIS said in the recall information. The inspector was reviewing processing records and found that the water level in the product may have been high enough to allow for the production of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of these products. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact a physician. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website"

The recall includes 16 ounce packages of Lee's Sandwiches brand Pork Sausages made on Feb. 11, 2013 with code 042P, and 16 ounce packages of Lee's Sandwiches brand Pork and Chicken Sausages made on Feb. 12, 2013 with code 043PC.

The packages also have the establishment number of Est. 11041 on its USDA mark of inspection label.
