McDonald's Mighty Wing lovers will have another opportunity to buy the product in the franchise food chain's second promotion The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The news comes after the company had ten million pounds of the chicken wings leftover from its first campaign this fall in time for football season.
"Mighty Wings are proving once again that we can't sell premium items in large numbers because we still have the Dollar Menu," one franchisee said in the anonymous survey The Journal reported.
The wings have cayenne and chili pepper and can be paired with creamy ranch, honey mustard or tangy barbecue. The wings will be available for purchase in three, five, or 10-piece packs beginning at $2.99.
"(The Mighty Wings promotion sold within the lower range of company expectations,) Don Thompson, McDonald's CEO told The Journal. "(The price) was not considered the most competitive."
The Mighty Wings were tested in Atlanta and Chicago, Bloomberg reported. Chief Executive Officer Don Thompson re-constructed McDonald's menu in order to increase sales throughout its 14,100 United States locations.
McDonald's has added to and changed its menu options as another way to boost sales, and list profitable food products.
Changes have included holding off of the McRib's national launch unless a location wants to sell it, a build-your-own burger concept the company is currently testing out, a Southwest burger and Bacon Hot 'N Spicy McChicken sandwich, and dollar menu items for $2 and $5. The fast-food chain is also seeing how a McD mobile app fairs.
McDonald's is also adding a third pick-up window to all of its drive-thrus next year to help alleviate congestion and decrease wait times.
The company also did away with its Angus third pounder burger from its menu, and added egg-white breakfast sandwiches, and chicken McWraps.
