Chipotle Mexican Grill is adding pizza to its mix with a new initiative called Pizzeria Locale.
Customers can now select from 10 classic pizzas, and four American classics a press release on Chipotle's website reported. Pizzas can also be made with a variety of ingredients, before they are put into the oven, and cooked to perfection in under two minutes.
"Opening Pizzeria Locale using a model similar to Chipotle allows us to make extraordinary pizza, made with high-quality ingredients accessible to everyone," Steve Ells, founder, chairman and co-CEO of Chipotle, said in a statement.
Chipotle also has salads, and sides such as prosciutto and meatballs. Diners can also get red or white Italian wine.
A Denver Chipotle was equipped with the new digs in May, which are derived from another pizza place in Boulder, Colo. called Pizzeria Locale.
Customers are greeted with a pizza station where they can make their own pie, a room capable of keeping dough at 72 degrees, and floors and walls with white tiles, and marble.
The franchise restaurant chain is also looking to expand throughout the Denver area with two or more places.
The company has also teamed up with ShopHouse to offer Asian food. There are presently six ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen restaurants in Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. More locations are expected in the months ahead.
"While both Pizzeria Locale and ShopHouse are exciting concepts, it's important to remember that our growth will continue to be driven for the foreseeable future by expanding the Chipotle brand within the U.S.," Ells said.in a statement.
Boulder's Pizza Locale unlocked its doors for the first time in 2011, and was made by waiter Stuckey, and executive chef Mackinnon-Patterson both of whom established Frasca Food and Wine.
Frasca and the Pizzeria Locale in Boulder, Colo do not have any affiliation with the new venture, and are not connected with Chipotle.
