Boeing 777x: Rally For Puget Sound Scheduled for Wednesday

| By

At least a few members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers are scheduled to put up a fight Wednesday for a vote on a contract previously turned down, that would keep the aircraft's construction in Puget Sound the Associated Press reported Saturday.

"If there's a big enough show of support, the union will see that there's more people that want to vote than they think," Paul Fritzler, a mechanic at Boeing told the AP via television station KOMO News 4.

The Washington site would win over all of the other 22 states vying to be selected for the company's building of the aircraft.

Those in the running include Charleston, S.C., Huntsville, Ala., Long Beach, Calif., Philadelphia and St. Louis.

The International Association of Machinists originally did not agree to the terms of the deal, which would have made their healthcare more expensive, eliminated their pension, and give Boeing a 20 year timeframe to construct the transporter.

The union group then did not agree to a revised contract because they felt it was the same as the first one except for $5,000 in extra income. The speed employees move up the chain would also be decreased. According to the AP, Boeing has been in favor of a retirement savings plan with a 401 (k) type of retirement savings plan.

Washington Governor then acknowledged he would talk to both sides after the contract was rejected.

"Despite today's setback, I remain convinced that an agreement between the Machinists and Boeing would be in the best interest of all parties - the workers, the company and Washington state," Inslee said in a statement at the Time the Associated Press reported. "We have submitted our state's proposal and I still hope that the company will recognize that the best way to ensure that the 777X is delivered to its customers on time and at the least cost is to build it here."
