Arizona Couple Charged With Assault; Disorderly Conduct After McDonald's Hash Browns Not Included in Order

| By

A couple in Arizona reportedly threw a bag of their food at an employee at a Mesa, Ariz. McDonald's when hash browns weren't included ABC television affiliate 10 News reported Tuesday.

Michael and Nova Smith were charged with assault, and disorderly conduct for reportedly striking an employee in the arm with one of the bags of food according to 10 News.

Nova went back into the restaurant to speak with the managers after realizing she did not get hash browns. Michael then dialed 911, and approached the manager when he was not willing to return their food or grant their money back.

"I just was barely able to hold myself back," Michael told 10 News. "And if not for the 911 call operator calling me back, I probably would have went berserk on him." An employee, and another customer besides the Smith's also put in a 911 call. According to 10 News, employees attempted to resolve the issue when the bag came their way.

The couple felt dialing 911 was the only option since employees were reportedly not assisting them with their orders of McDonald's No.2 quarter pounder value meal, and No. 4 two cheeseburger meal.

"It's a meal," Nova told ABC television station 10 News. "Just like you should get fries with your hamburger, we should have got our hash browns with our breakfast sandwiches. And that was out of frustration which I probably shouldn't have done, but I did. Fighting over $2 of hash browns is ridiculous. It is ridiculous to have to fight that hard just to get customer service."

The location has been open a month and employees have acknowledged new ones might not have put them in by accident News 10 reported.

McDonald's has over 34,000 locations throughout the world catering to 69 million customers according to the company's website.
