Yauk's Specialty Meats out of Windsor, Colo, is pulling back 90,000 pounds of meat and poultry products because they were made in indecent conditions The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a press release Monday.
The products include different brands of Colorado Best Beef including smoked and shelf-stable meat, James Ranch brand jerky and summer sausage, Rocky Plains hams, bacon, raw and smoked sausage, jerky, and raw poultry, John Long Farms fresh and smoked pork products, horned beef brand jerky, and Mile High Hungarian Sausage smoked bacon, and sausage.
The affected products have the identifications Est. 20309 or P-20309 on their USDA Mark of inspection, and were made from April 1, and Dec. 5.
"FSIS has suspended the assignment of inspectors at the establishment, and the investigation is ongoing," the department said in the release. "FSIS and the establishment have received no reports of illness due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a healthcare provider. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls."
FSIS examined food safety at the plant Thursday when they found the meat was made in unhealthy conditions. This involved rodents, and how the products were stored, and sold.
