McDonald's sales for November did not meet predictions from analysts Bloomberg Businessweek reported Monday.
"Competitive activity and relatively flat industry traffic trends negatively impacted performance," in the U.S.," the company said in the statement Bloomberg Businessweek reported.
"Their competitors are just getting a little bit more focused and a little bit better about what they're doing," Peter Saleh, an analyst at Telsey Advisory Group in New York said in a n interview Bloomberg Businessweek reported. "Burger King and Wendy's Co. are advertising new items and taking some customers from McDonald's."
United states locations, open 13 months or less declined 0.8 percent. This compares to analyst's 0.3 percent forecast. Sales at company locations throughout the world went up 0.5 percent compared to a 0.6 percent prediction.
Monday's news is also the latest development since McDonald's has made efforts to adjust its menu, and facilities in order to increase sales.
The company has added new items to its menu such as Mighty Wings particularly during football season. Flavors for these include cayenne and chili pepper USA Today reported. These can be paired with creamy ranch, honey mustard or tangy barbecue. The wings are available for purchase in three, five, or 10-piece packs beginning at $2.99.
The infamous "Dollar Menu and More" selection has also been beefed up to include $2 and $5.
Choices include single burgers, double patty burgers, deluxe burgers, and additional chicken options.
McDonald's also announced plans to put a third drive-thru pick up window at all of locations so customers can get in and out of drive-thru lines faster The Associated Press reported Thursday. These are expected next year at all Mcdonald's locations.
"The slowest function is delivering the food," Jedele told The Columbus Post-Dispatch. "With the third window, we've been able to more quickly take care of our guests."
