American Airlines Group Inc. has announced in a press release that they have appointed Martin H. Nesbitt, 52, and Susan D. Kronick, 64, to its board of directors.
The appointment is immediate and it increases the airlines directors to 13 members.
Doug Parker, the chairman and CEO of American Airlines, said in the press release that the appointment of Kronick and Nesbitt will greatly contribute to the airline.
"These seasoned executives bring unique perspectives shaped by their extensive leadership experiences and strong community ties in two of our hubs, Miami, and Chicago," he said. "We look forward to their contributions."
American Airlines said in the press release that Nesbitt currently serves as Co-CEO of The Vistria Group LLC, a Chicago-based investment company that is focused on education, healthcare, and financial services industries.
He is also a trustee of Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art and serves as the chairman of the Barack Obama Foundation.
American Airlines adds that Nesbit also currently serves on the board of directors of Jones Lang LaSalle and Norfolk Southern California.
The Chicago Tribune adds that Nesbitt, as the chairman of the Barack Obama Foundation, was tasked to raise money and carry out the president's vision for the Barack Obama Presidential Center on the South Side.
Nesbit is also described as a close friend of President Barack Obama.
The Chicago Tribune adds that he recently led the effort for an Obama presidential library in Chicago.
American Airlines said in the press release that Kronick currently serves as a trustee at the Knight Foundation and as chairman of the board at Miami City Ballet, two prominent nonprofit organizations in Miami.
Kronick also currently serves as an operating partner at Marvin Traub Associate, a New York-based retail business development.
The Chicago Tribune adds that American Airlines is the second largest airline carrier at the Chicago O'Hare International Airport, next only to United Airlines.
