Florida Man Vies For Discount With Police Badge At Dunkin Donuts Drive-Thru (VIDEO)

| By

A Trinity, Fla. man reportedly pretended he was a police officer to get discounts when he pulled up to a Dunkin Donuts drive-thru according to police the Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday.

Charles Barry was arrested for impersonating an officer, and improper exhibition of a firearm according to police the Times reported. He has since left jail after making $5,150 bail.

Barry reportedly displayed a .38-caliber revolver in its leather case after he could not a discount on his cup of coffee when showing a police badge from the Morris County Sheriff's Office in New Jersey.

"Dunkin' Donuts is aware of the incident that occurred in New Port Richey, Florida. The safety and well-being of our guests and crew members is important to Dunkin' Donuts and we are pleased that the suspect has been apprehended," the company said in a statement the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Barry had previously visited the location initially indicating he was a U.S Marshal, and then a U.S. Air Marshal according to the franchise restaurant donut chain's manager Michelle Hoeltk. He also asked for a discount when stopping in during weekends with his family members.

Hoeltk was able to get Barry's license plate number when he visited the restaurant before Tuesday. Video footage allowed law enforcement to track down Barry and his blue minivan when he drove to the restaurant Tuesday.

According to the Times, officers are not supposed to inquire about discounts, but can take advantage of them if businesses present them.

"It's okay to question," Sheriff Chris Nocco told the Times. "It really is an issue that people out there are trying to play cops, and they could have done something crazy that could have hurt somebody. We're thankful that it was just a cup of coffee."

Barry's father was a captain in the sheriff's department, but Barry had never become involved.
