American Airlines to Build New Headquarters in Fort Worth, Part of Continuing Integration with U.S. Airways

| By

American Airlines said in a letter to employees that they will be building a new headquarters and create a corporate campus in Fort Worth, Texas, according to a report from the Dallas Business Journal.

The new headquarters and corporate campus is still part of the airline's continuing integration with U.S. Airways, which it merged with two years ago.

The Dallas Business Journal adds that Stephen Johnson, the executive vice president for Corporate Affairs and Elise Eberwein, the executive vice president for People and Communications, said in the letter that the airline's most important integration goal is to connect all of its 100,000 employees.

"That's a difficult task because most of our team members' offices are cockpits, galleys, hangars, call centers, airport ticket counters/gates and aircraft cargo holds," they said. "Connecting 100,000 people across a largely mobile environment is challenging but necessary if we are to build the greatest airline in the world."

Johnson and Eberwein add in the letter that the new campus will help connect their frontline team members and the employees who support them, according to the Dallas Business Journal.

The new campus will be occupied by about 5,000 employees.

The Dallas Business Journal adds that American Airlines plans to demolish their old Sabre Holdings headquarters and acquire an additional 97 acres to build its new headquarters.

Four buildings will be built that will house the management team, and the corporate and stuff functions.

Star-Telegram adds that the airline expects to break ground on the new building next spring.

American Airlines expect to move into the new building in late summer or early fall of 2018.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price told Star-Telegram that it is exciting to know the airline will be staying and calling it a "strong Fort Worth company."

She said that the new corporate campus is a big win for the entire Metroplex and a big investment.

The Dallas Business Journal adds that incentives from Fort Worth for the new headquarters will likely be part of the deal.

Fort Worth has fought hard to keep the headquarters of American Airlines within the city limits.
