McDonald's coffee lovers will soon be able to choose from bagged coffee the Associated Press reported Wednesday.
"As you know, we are always looking at new and exciting ways to remain relevant to our customers and be where they need us to be... [But] we register a lot of trademarks. That's nothing new for us," Danya Proud, McDonald's spokesman told the Daily Meal.
McDonald's is going to see how selling their own packaged ground and whole-bean coffee products does in supermarkets and other retail chains beginning next year before doing a full distribution with Kraft Foods Group. Customers will also be able to buy single cups of coffee.
"We want to work with McDonald's to help consumers enjoy McCafe premium coffee in the comfort and convenience of their own homes," Tony Vernon, chief executive officer at Kraft Foods told analysts on a conference call Reuters reported.
The franchise burger chain has already started selling 12 ounce bags of Canada last year for $7.
"(We are) building on the momentum of our McCafe beverages in our restaurants by expanding these options," the company said in a statement Reuters reported.
The new addition is the latest development in the shift, franchise companies are making to provide bagged coffee the AP reported. These include Starbucks which has supplied the product in stores for many years, and Dunkin Donuts.
The company has also added and changed items to its menu in order to boost sales. These include its new "Dollar Menu and More," and the addition of mighty chicken wings for the current football season.
"They're being more innovative, and they're being more aggressive with the changes on their menu," Peter Saleh, an analyst at New York-based Telsey Advisory Group told Bloomberg. "This is good news because it's in conjunction with the football season."
