In addition to meat products recalled Oct. 22, Reser's Fine Foods is also pulling back prepared products such as potato salad because they may be infected with Listeria the United States Food and Drug Administration reported over the weekend.
"Healthy people may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea," the administration said in a statement.
The products have a use-by-date and best-by-date, the plant identifier code 20, and were sent to stores and food places throughout the country.
Those who bought affected products can return it and get their money back, or throw it out. Consumers can also call the company's consumer hotline at 1-888-257-7913 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. eastern standard time or log on to the administration's website.
Resers also recalled 22,800 pounds of meat products last week the United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service reported.
Raw meat should also be stored in separate areas than other food products that are not cooked.
The service also advises people who have a great chance of coming down with listeriosis clean their hands after they touch meat and poultry products for 20 seconds. Individuals should also clean cutting boards, dishes, and utensils they use.
"The problem was discovered through microbiological testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency," the inspection service said in a statement. "FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers."
The products were sent to stores and other locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
