Kraft Foods is recalling 735,000 cases of Kraft and Polly-O string cheese, and string cheese twist products because they may go bad prior to when their Best When Used By Date is up, the company said in a press release on its website Friday.
"We're sorry that some of our Kraft and Polly-O String Cheese products did not meet our high standards," the company said in a statement. "And we deeply regret if you have experienced any inconvenience due to our voluntary recall on October 25, 2013. As you may know, these are natural cheeses that contain no added preservatives, and it's not unusual for cheese to spoil over time. But in this situation, we saw spoilage occurring before the "Best When Used By" Date. That is not acceptable to us. So we knew the right thing to do for our consumers was to voluntarily recall the affected product." The packages range from Oct. 25, 2013 through Feb. 11, 2014.
The company has issued the recall after consumers told employees the packages were spoiling before they were supposed to. The company has therefore stopped making the product, and sending it to stores from their plant in Campbell, N.Y. inorder to look into the issue.
The company is also advising those who bought the cheese to not consume it, and take it back to the store where they obtained it so they can choose another product, or get their money back.
The cases were transported to customers throughout the United States the press release reported. None were sent to Canada.
Consumers with questions can email the company at https://kraftfoods.custhelp.com/app/answers/list, or call its Cosumer Relations department at 1-800-816-9432 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. eastern time.
