Danny Boyle announced last month that "Trainspotting 2" is happening and the original cast will be back to reprise their role.
After 20 years, fans will finally see Ewan McGregor (Mark Renton), Johnny Lee Miller (Sick Boy), Robert Carlyle (Begbie), and Ewen Bremner (Spud) on the big screen again.
"All the four main actors want to come back and do it," the director told Deadline. "Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series," he explained. The 58-year-old producer could be referring to Miller (Elementary) and Carlyle Once Upon A Time). Ewan McGregor, on the other hand, is currently filming "American Pastoral."
During a recent interview with Vulture, Danny Boyle revealed that the original cast were scared doing a sequel.
"When it comes to doing another 'Trainspotting,' they were very nervous, because for all of them, it's a large part of their reputation and they feel very protective towards their character," he explained.
The English film director also admitted how important it is to get the approval of the actors because they are the ones who are going to make the script look believable and truthful.
Boyle revealed that they attempted to produce "Trainspotting 2" ten years ago, but the script was mediocre.
"I never even sent it to the actors, because I knew they would destroy it," he said.
Danny Boyle and the rest of the team which included author Irvine Welsh and screenwriter John Hodge decided to work on "Trainspotting 2" last year - and all of their hard work paid off.
"It had this feeling about it, where it honors the original and it won't disappoint people," he said. "It's not the same film, but it can't be, and we wouldn't want it to be. And the actors all responded to it as I thought they would."
