A new version of the Apple TV could arrive next year The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
"It'll probably be more of a smart monitor than what we think of as a TV," Masahiko Ishino, a Japan analyst told The Journal.
The company hopes to eliminate tuners and cables used with today's televisions.
"When you look at the TV experience, it's not an experience that I think very many people love," Apple chief executive officer told The Journal. "It's not one that has been brought up to date for this decade. It's still an experience much like 10 years ago or 20 years ago." Last year, Cook said the company was interested in seeing what the television world was all about, and using it to capitalize on the thriving Macs, iPhones, and iPads. The new products are expected to be in ultra-high definition and measure between 55 and 65 inches in length.
The screens will also not have any frames, and are likely to go on sale by the end of next year for between $1,500 and $2,500 The Journal reported.
LG Display company is expected to provide over 70 percent of the liquid-crystal substance the products are made with.
Apple may also utilize Samsung's expertise with making graphics. Glass, and ceramics company Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 device could also be used.
According to The Telegraph, former Apple chief executive officer Steve Job, who passed away in 2011, informed his biographer, that he had figured out how to construct a TV that was easy for consumers to use, and was capable of bringing content together with other Apple's products.
"We are going to keep pulling the string and see where this takes us," Jobs said in 2011, The Telegraph reported.
Apple unveils its new iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 Tuesday in San Francisco. The company does not anticipate discussing its goals for television products.
