Taco Bell's Doritos Locos Taco Sales Surpass $1 Billion

| By

Sales for Taco Bell's Doritos Locos Tacos surpassed $1 billion the Huffington Post reported Wednesday.

"It has been the biggest launch in Taco Bell history," Greg Creed, chief executive officer of Taco Bell told the Daily Beast in March. "Last year we added 15,000 people to handle the growth," he said. "We believe we can add 2,000 new restaurants in the next 10 years, because we have is proprietary and exclusive. Nobody else can make a Cool Ranch Doritos taco. And that's just in the U.S."

In an earnings call with media and investors in February, David Novak, chief executive officer of Taco Bell owner Yun Brands said the chain had sold 325 million tacos since the product was unveiled nationwide last year in March, 2012, just five months after the company sold 200 million of the taco.

Launched in June 2012, the food product is a collaboration between Taco Bell and Frito-Lay.

It's ingredients include a Taco Supreme made with beef, lettuce, diced tomato, cheddar cheese on top of reduced fat sour cream, inside a shell from doritos nacho cheese chips.

While the product's numbers show customers enjoy the company's food, they have also been fond of Taco Bell's customer's service.

"We know that the productivity of our full-time employees exceeds that our part-time workers," Creed told The Daily Beast. "We've done some research. The top thing that customers look at is how people treat their employees. They'll judge us not just on quality of food, but on how we treat our team members.

Taco Bell is just one of many fast food restaurant chains who have become more creative in their menu items.

Burger King for instance, is offering a bacon sundae. This consists of soft serve vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge, and smooth caramel with bacon the company said on its website.
