Twitter Planning Company-Wide Layoffs, Comes at the Same Time the Company Plans to Restructure Engineering Organization

| By

Multiple sources have told Re/code that Twitter, Inc. is planning to have company-wide layoffs next week, Jack Dorsey's first move as the new CEO.

It is unclear how many people will be cut, but sources say that it will affect all departments.

Sources told Re/code that the downsizing comes at the same time the company is making its engineering organization leaner and more efficient.

This could indicate that many of the people to be impacted by the layoff are engineers, which is half of the staff.

Re/code adds that the restructuring is aligning with what Dorsey has been saying for the last four months.

The CEO has been saying that Twitter needs to be more focused.

Re/code adds that Dorsey restructured the company's product team in August to be able to do a better job of "clarifying ownership" around projects.

Venture Beat adds that the move is also a way for Dorsey to make people more accountable to their products.

The company did ok in terms of revenue last quarter, but it is still struggling in terms of getting user adaptation.

Venture Beat adds that one of Dorsey's top priorities as permanent CEO is the product roadmap of Twitter.

He also said that for the company to have the best talent the roadmap will need to sing and that everyone was behind it.

Venture Beat adds that the news about the layoffs ends an active week for Twitter.

Following the announcement of Dorsey becoming permanent CEO, the company has launched Moments, a feature that curates the best tweets from major events, and a new video ad feature, which allows videos to run against preferred content categories.

Venture Beat also adds that Twitter's shares, which closed at $30.84 on Friday, have dropped by 2.74 percent in after-hours trading following the report of the layoffs.
