Sanderson Farms Recalls More than 550,000 Pounds of Chicken, Contains Foreign Material

| By

Sanderson Farms, Inc. is voluntarily recalling approximately 551,090 pounds of chicken products that are produced in its plant in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, according to their own press release.

The recall is due to a foreign material found in the chicken after a customer and the U.S. Department of Agriculture analyzed a sample.

A press release issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) stated that the problem with the product was first discovered when the firm received a complaint from a processing facility.

The facility said that the contamination is due to a malfunction in the ice-making machine that was used during the production of the chicken.

The FSIS adds in their press release that the products being recalled are the "YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO BONELESS SKINLESS BREAST FILLETS WITH RIB MEAT" with case code 45017, and the "YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO CLIPPED TENDERLOINS" with case code 45092.

The "YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS JUMBO BONELESS SKINLESS BREAST BUTTERFLIES WITH RIB MEAT" with case code 45015 and the "FRESH YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS BREAST FRAMES" with case code 45969 are also part of the recall.

The FSIS adds in their press release that all the products being recalled are in the 70-lbs case, plus the 1800-lb case of the "FRESH YOUNG CHICKEN PARTS BREAST FRAMES."

All products bear the establishment number "EST. P-274" inside the USDA mark of inspection and were shipped to processing facilities in Georgia and Louisiana.

Sanderson in their own press release that the products being recalled were produced in the company's Mississippi plant on September 17 and 18 and that none of them was shipped to grocery stores or packed directly for consumers.

The company also said that no injuries or adverse reaction caused by consuming the products were reported.

The FSIS added in their own press release that consumers who happen to purchase the products are urged not to consume them.

The products should instead be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
