'Gotham' TV Series Starting Over Thru Season 2? Stars Says They Are Redoing; Release Date Is Sept. 21

There is a lot of changes, improvements to expect when "Gotham" season 2 release date arrives. Not only the Fox TV series is introducing new characters, the show is also going back as far as the beginning of the story for its sophomore run.

"Yeah, we're re-originating the show pretty significantly. You could say this is a second pilot, and you're right," Ben McKenzie, who plays James Gordon, told reporters during a special screening on set at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn.

"The first pilot we made did show how it could be a grand, serialized saga, but it got diverted into the procedural act."

McKenzie said what people see once "Gotham" season release date arrives is the show's way of righting the things they did wrong in the first season.

"We basically needed to end the first season and right the ship, to move it back to where it should've been. There's 75 years of this stuff, all these characters and all these movies. They're really rich and have this really complicated moral landscape that they're living in. So let's, you know, let's explore that!"

"Gotham" season 2 release date is on September 21.

This is not the first time McKenzie talked about the revisions his show will do for its sophomore run. He told Entertainment Weekly last month that they made the mistake of having too much villains and they veer away from that from now on.

"I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever," McKenzie said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "That was just a mistake. We should've never done it."

"We were ordered for 16 [episodes]. We were going to have one break and come back and finish the rest of them in terms of the airing, and then we added six more, so we had to break again and then we had to come back again," he said. "And it's hard for the audience to follow that many changes in a series in terms of when it's airing and when it's not."

For this season, "Gotham" TV series will introduce at least four iconic villains (so far). They are Tigress, Mad Hatter, Dr. Freeze, and the Joker. The last one is believed to be Jerome (played by Cameron Monaghan) but show's writers never exactly said he is indeed the Joker.
