McDonald's plans to unveil its bone-in chicken wings next month, according to Bloomberg.
"They're being more innovative, and they're being more aggressive with the changes on their menu," Peter Saleh, an analyst at New York-based Telsey Advisory Group told Bloomberg. "This is good news because it's in conjunction with the football season."
McDonald's will begin selling wings as part of its Mighty Wings promotion on Sept. 9 Bloomberg reported. The newest menu item will be on all McDonald's menus throughout the U.S. by Sept. 24. The wings will then remain on sale through November.
The new wings will have cayenne and chili pepper and can be paired with creamy ranch, honey mustard or tangy barbecue. The wings will be available for purchase in three, five, or 10-piece packs beginning at $2.99.
The wings have already been tested in Atlanta and Chicago, Bloomberg reported. Chief Executive Officer Don Thompson has been re-constructing McDonald's menu in order to increase sales throughout its 14,100 locations throughout the U.S.
The company has recently removed its Angus third pounder burgers from its menu, and added egg-white breakfast sandwiches and chicken McWraps. According to Bloomberg, competitors to McDonald's such as Popeyes, and Wendy's also have added new chicken items on their menus this year.
At the close of the markets Monday, McDonald's shares rose 0.2 percent to $95.31 Bloomberg reported. In 2013, the shares have increased 8 percent while the Standard and Poor's 500 Index has progressed 16 percent. McDonald's also saw same-store sales increase 1.6 percent in July.
