Sam Smith Confirms ‘Spectre’ Theme Song! Is Ellie Goulding In The New James Bond Soundtrack?

| By

The director of "Spectre" revealed a few months ago that they have finished recording the theme song of the "James Bond" sequel.

"I can say that the song's been recorded and it's fantastic and I'm very excited about it," Sam Mendes told BBC. "You won't have to wait long."

The director didn't mention who the artist was, but there were speculations that it was Sam Smith. All the rumors are correct as the 23-year-old singer confirm that he indeed wrote the song.

The title of the "Spectre" theme song is "Writing's on the Wall" and it will be released on Sep. 25.

"This is one of the highlights of my career," Smith confessed as reported by BBC. "I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations." The multi-awarded singer also admitted that he had a hard time keeping this project.

"I'm so relieved to actually talk about this, this has been a top secret mission of my own," he told Nick Grimshaw of Radio 1. Sam Smith revealed that he recorded the theme song of "James Bond 24" back in January.

"I got called into the office with Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes and they gave me the script, I read the script... they said 'have a go at the song,'" he shared."It's the quickest I've ever written a song - it took 20 minutes... and they loved it!"

The English musician co-wrote the theme song with Jimmy Napes, whom he has worked with before in "La La La" and "Stay with Me."

According to BBC, this will be the first time since 1965 that a male singer wrote and sang a James Bond theme song.

Apart from Sam Smith, there were also rumors that Ellie Goulding recorded a song for the "Spectre" soundtrack because of her social media posts.

She wrote the words "Live and Let Die," which was the title of the 1973 film, on Twitter.

The 28-year-old singer also shared a photo of her leaving the Abbey Road Studios on Instagram and captioned it "It's a wrap."
