The Taco Bell's Doritos Locos tacos are officially the most popular item in Taco Bell history since the company first rolled them out back in June, selling more than there are people in the U.S.
In an earnings call with media and investors earlier this week, David Novak, the CEO of Taco Bell owner Yum Brands, announced that the chain had sold 325 million Doritos Locos tacos since bringing the product nationwide on March 8, 2012, just five months after passing the 200 million mark.
The amount of Taco Bell's Doritos Locos represents at least 60 million pounds, $500 millon and 60 billion calories worth of tacos.
The launch of Doritos Locos tacos, a collaboration between Taco Bell and Plano-based Frito-Lay, has proved successful for the companies. Taco Bell is now moving to capitalize on its success by rolling out a new flavor, with a Cool Ranch Doritos shell, in March later this year.
