Letterman Shakeup: Stangel Brothers Leave After 14 Years

David Letterman shakeup is affecting Justin and Eric Stangel who have been the head writers for Letterman for the last 14-years, after they sealed a multi-year development deal with Worldwide Pants.

Matt Roberts, one of the show's longtime writers and producers, will take over the head writing job as the Stangel brothers are working on developing new shows for David Letterman's company, according to Deadline.

The Stangel brothers have signed a multi-year development deal with Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company. Former Worldwide Pants writers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas went on to create hit TV show "How I Met Your Mother."

"The Stangel brothers are going to remain with the show as part of the deal because we need them," said Rob Burnett, the co-chairman of Worldwide Pants said according to Deadline.

"These guys are as good as it gets. For people like this super valuable to the show, this deal keeps these guys from walking," Burnett added.

Matt Roberts becomes Letterman's first new head writer in 14 years. He originally started out as an intern in charge of wrangling guests, before eventually bring promoted to segment producer and writer on the show. He enters a more competitive arena than he's used to, with the addition of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in its new time slot at 11:35 p.m.
