ClearSign Signs Agreement with Tesoro to Test Performance of ClearSign's Low Emissions Duplex Technology

| By

ClearSign Combustion Corporation has just announced that it has signed an agreement with Tesoro Refining & Marketing Company, LLC to test the performance of its Duplex technology in Tesoro's refinery heaters, according to a press release issued by ClearSign.

ClearSign, a company that designs, develops and markets technologies that drive to improve key performance characteristics of combustion systems, will retrofit a selected heater at Tesoro's Los Angeles refinery using its low emissions Duplex technology, according to the press release.

Tesoro's Los Angeles refinery is aiming to lessen the emission of nitrogen oxide in half by 2020. This goal was set by the California South Coast Air Quality Management District as part of their NOx Reclaim Program.

Reuters adds that Tesoro's refinery in Los Angeles supplies 50 percent of the jet fuel used by the Los Angeles International Airport.

Reuters also adds that the move to lessen the emissions is part of a trend growing trend of U.S. companies' spending more money to reduce emissions.

This is in reaction to the Obama administration's increasing effort to lessen the pollution in the country.

Steve Pirnat, chief executive officer of ClearSign, believes that a successful performance from them will lead to more agreement with Tesoro, according to Reuters.

"If Tesoro is successful in this first phase of working with us, they would likely use our solution in all of their refineries throughout the United States," he said in an interview with Reuters.

Reuters adds that ClearSign also has refineries in North Dakota, Utah, Northern California, Alaska and Washington state.

The performance of ClearSign's low emissions Duplex technology will be evaluated using several performance criteria, according to the press release.

The performance criteria will include whether the nitrogen oxide emission will meet or exceed the NOx Reclaim Program's goal of lessening nitrogen oxide emissions to half of the current level by 2020.
