Chipotle Net Income Increases 27 Percent To $140.2 Million: Second-Quarter Report

| By

Chipotle, one of the fastest-growing restaurant chains in the United States, is continuing to maximize profits amidst global expansion.

The Mexican grill's net income increased by 27 percent to $140.2 million ($4.45 per share) in the second quarter of fiscal year 2015, Bloomberg reports. The company's figures surpassed analyst estimates by two cents per share.

Although Chipotle has spent more money on high-quality ingredients in recent months, it has made up for increased expenditure by hiking up its prices. This has witnessed a 4.3 percent rise in sales.

"They have a lot at their disposal to drive same-store sales," BTIG analyst Peter Saleh told Bloomberg.

"They still have room to raise prices."

Part-time workers at Chipotle are receiving added benefits that include tuition reimbursement for students.

Beginning July 1, all company employees began receiving sick pay and paid vacation time.

"It's an incredible statement by our leadership about how much we want to invest in the best people we have and to keep them with us," Chipotle recruitment strategy manager JD Cummings said at a recent conference.

The benefits are being implemented in an effort to help employees build their respective careers and use their experience elsewhere. Chipotle officials are also attempting to focus on their efforts on making part-time jobs more appealing to their target demographic: high school and college students.

The company, which currently employs approximately 53,090 workers, is among many other top fast-casual chains looking to provide more benefits to employees as a result of successful protest movements.
