BlackBerry Ltd officials have selected Carl Wiese as the company's new head of global sales amidst weaker-than-expected sales growth.
Wiese, who will replace John Sims, was publicly appointed on Monday. The new corporate leader spent the past 12 years at Cisco Systems, Reuters reports. He is also reported to have worked for companies among the ranks of Apple and Texas Instruments.
"Carl has extensive experience in enterprise software and emerging technology solutions, which will be instrumental as BlackBerry moves toward stabilizing revenue," BlackBerry Chief Executive John Chen said in a statement, according to the site.
Wiese's appointment was announced several weeks after BlackBerry officials reported unfavorable software sales growth for the second quarter of fiscal year 2015. Software development, however, isn't the only area of business the company is struggling with.
BlackBerry, once considered one of the most popular brands in the mobile device industry, has struggled to boost sales in recent years. This has largely been attributed to competition from Android and Apple devices.
Now, reports are suggesting the company will release a "Blackberry Venice" phone which will include an Android operating system. However, company officials have since attempted to squash these claims.
"Blackberry frequently registers domain names to support the breadth of our cross-platform portfolio... Android is an important part of our cross-platform enterprise software strategy," Blackberry said in a report, according to The Bit Bag.
The rumored device is said to be powered by a 1.8 Ghz Snapdragon 808 hexacore processor and contains 3GB of RAM.
Wiese, who has not addressed these rumors since commencing his role, will be responsible for developing new market strategies.
